Catch the Buzz: Telepathique

Brazilian dance duo bust south-of-the-border preconceptions, formulate own brand of grooving guitars and compu-beats on forthcoming debut, Last Time on Earth.
Telepathique

Who? Stateside ears are no stranger to dance tunes spouting from Brazil -- CSS and Bonde do Role have already put the country on the indie-minded map. But Telepathique, a duo calling the same nation home, certainly bring a whole new sound to the dance floor.

Catch the Buzz: From Bubblegum to Sky

Oakland-based project head Mario Hernandez crafts an indie-pop masterwork with A Soft Kill, his just-released third full-length to date.

Who? With a MySpace page citing influences like Holga cameras, analog tape, and Marc Bolan, it's no surprise Oakland, CA's From Bubble Gum to Sky -- the solo project of former Ciao Bella head Mario Hernandez -- has a penchant for lo-fi pop music.

Who? Driven by a stern piano bounce -- courtesy of frontman Mike Grubbs -- indie-pop-on-Mozart quintet Wakey!Wakey! are quickly becoming the talk of the Big Apple with rhythm-heavy, heartfelt ballads, and -- most notably -- Grubbs' striking Top 40 pipes. With an audience that ranges easily from wet-eyed punk rockers to stay-at-home moms, Wakey!Wakey!

Catch the Buzz: One for the Team

Minneapolis-based indie-pop quintet prepare to break out with excellent sophomore set, Build it Up. Download the chattering, sunny pop glee of "A Better Job."

Who? Minneapolis' One for the Team purvey the sort of buzzing, playful, unisex indie-pop purported by bands bold older (say, Velocity Girl) and new (Mates of State). But with five members -- led by singer-songwriter/Twin Cities man-about-town/Afternoon Records founder Ian Anderson -- the band's sound arrives more expansive and guitar-based, but equally sunny, cutesy, and keys-driven.

Catch the Buzz: Au

Portland experimentalists keep on their melodic side, while offering a heady dose of genre-bending eccentricity.

Who? This Portland, OR-based collective's name might not be the simplest to pronounce phonetically, but then again, there's not much about Au that's easy to define.

Catch the Buzz: Princeton

California chamber-pop trio stay stately on their forthcoming Bloomsbury EP, out July 7.

Who? They may have an Ivy-bred name, but Eagle Rock, CA's Princeton are more concerned with chamber-pop than condescension.
