Arctic Monkeys Play It Cool in San Francisco
The landscape of San Francisco's Tenderloin district in front of the Warfield is a bit off tonight. Intermingled with the district's usual cast of characters -- the drug dealers, the prostitutes, the "colorful" street people -- are the hordes of middle-aged hipsters and Urban Outfitters-attired teens all converging to witness the British phenoms, Arctic Monkeys.

Vancouver Fans Go Bananas for Arctic Monkeys
"Like Linda Blair in The Exorcist, but not strapped to the bed," was how supporting band We Are Scientists bassist Chris Cain described U.K. fans of British indie rock sensations Arctic Monkeys. Cain asked the sold-out crowd at the Commodore Ballroom May 27 in Vancouver to deliver a similar welcome to the Arctic Monkeys on the first date of their second North American tour.

Rock Gets Sensitive
On WB11's morning show this week, Spin assistant editor Kyle Anderson lent insight into why there's been an influx of sensitive-guy balladeers. Anderson attributed the success of such wounded souls as James Blunt, Daniel Powter, the Fray, and Nick Lachey to the universality of their lyrics. "We've all had bad days, we all think people are beautiful," Anderson said.
