There are few better places to spend a warm summer evening than a rooftop with friends and beers. But when you're on the roof of SPIN's Manhattan offices, those evening soirees can include something extra special, as was the case recently when Brendan Benson stopped by to perform.

Coinciding with the release of My Old, Familiar Friend, Brendan Benson's first solo album in four years, the erstwhile Raconteur took to the rooftop of SPIN's New York City offices Tuesday evening, offering a mini-batch of ebullient power-pop rockers to friends, fans, and SPIN employees.

A bit too much polish from moonlighting Raconteur.

When a songwriting collaboration with Jack White led to a partnership in the Raconteurs, power-pop cultist Brendan Benson tasted success far beyond the scope of his genre.

No band amalgamated the array of Bonnaroo's signature sounds -- blues, guitar virtuosity, indelibly American rock'n'roll -- quite like the Raconteurs in their Friday evening set. They truly opened the festival's massive What Stage for business, flaunting their rather sterling credentials authoritatively from the first licks of "Consoler of the Lonely" (see video below).
