Cage the Elephant

Who? Cage the Elephant is a rag-tag, raucous punk band whose lead vocalist manages to enunciate his lyrics in the midst of an inevitable musical frenzy. Hailing from Louisville and Bowling Green, Cage the Elephant’s charismatic frontman Matt Schultz is joined by Brad Schultz (guitar), Jared Champion (drums), Daniel Tichenor (bass) and Lincoln Parish (guitar).

What’s the Deal? Cage the Elephant’s low-fi, churning rock tunes are occasionally measured and pensive, and their name is appropriate in relation to their musical largesse. “Tiny Little Robots” bellows aggressively with danceable riffs, while the psychedelic, blistering sonics of “Free Love” is equally as frenzied as the band’s powerful live set. Check Cage the Elephant out live at Bonnaroo’s Troo Music Lounge on Saturday (June 16) at 2:20 P.M.

Fun Fact: Cage the Elephant has more than music between them: they’ve earned years aplenty. Matt Schultz and Brad Schultz are surprise — brothers, and the rest of the band are all childhood friends. TRICIA SUMMERS
