Hello, Austin! Finally, a supergroup that lives up to the hype and exceeds the sum of its parts.

It's easy to be skeptical when the term "supergroup" starts getting thrown around -- it usually connotes a battle of egos, an unwieldy split of duties, and, ultimately, music that doesn't match up to the work of the independent parts.

Dave Grohl fans will love the Head Foo's furious drumming on the latest leak from his new supergroup, Them Crooked Vultures' "Elephants." While the song's lyrics are tough to make out, the musical energy comes through loud and clear.

As if there weren't enough bands cluttering Chicago this past weekend, Them Crooked Vultures -- featuring Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme on guitar and vocals, Dave Grohl on drums, Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones on bass and keytar (!), and longtime Queens cohort Alain Johannes on rhythm guitar -- made their not-so-secret debut at the hot, sweaty, and overpacked Metro midnight Sunday.
