Elijah Wood to Play Pop, Mike Myers Cast as Keith Moon

In what could either be brilliant strokes of inspiration or the worst miscasting since someone decided Britney Spears could play a valedictorian in Crossroads, Elijah Wood and Mike Myers have been cast as Iggy Pop and Keith Moon, respectively, in upcoming rock star biopics. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the rather nerdy Wood is terrified of playing the hard rocking Pop. “I’ll be playing Iggy Pop, which is pretty frightening,” the former Frodo Baggins said. “I’m a huge fan of Iggy. It will chronicle the Stooges era, for the most part… It’s going to be a massive physical change!” Massive indeed: Wood needs to go from frail hobbit form to something akin to fitness guru John Basedow.

Almost as massive is the change Mike Myers will have to go through to play Who drummer Keith Moon. First off, Myers is 42, while Moon was only 32 when he died in 1978 from an overdose of prescription drugs. According to Variety, Myers’ name has been attached to the project since 2002, though the movie has been in the works for the past ten years. Myers will also have to amp up his energy levels to eleven to attempt to play the hard-rocking Moon, whose penchant for outlandish behavior and destroying drum kits was legendary. Hell, the man is even rumored to have had a muppet fashioned after him: Animal’s frenzied drumming does seem pretty Moon-like.
