Panic at the Disco, 'Pretty. Odd.' (Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen)

Love is all these emo moptops need to silence the haters.

Members of most bands pay their dues in a van with no money and no audience, but Panic at the Disco's Ryan Ross played nurse to an alcoholic dad who died when the young quartet first hit the road. And it's given the Vegas kids an acute sense of responsibility.

Coheed and Cambria, 'No World for Tomorrow' (Sony)

Soon to be starring in a new reality show, Man Bites Prog.

The emo demographic, not known for surprises, pulled a big one a few years back by going bonkers for this upstate New York band's unapologetic fusion of the aforementioned genre with Rush, Dream Theater, and early Queensrÿche. But on their fourth full-length, Coheed's emo leanings have faded.

Led by the electric orange-colored tresses of Hayley Williams, Franklin, TN punkers Paramore got a sun-drenched Saturday (Aug. 25) off to a hot start. Sharp rock bits from Young Knives and Pigeon Detectives kept the momentum going while fellow troublemakers the View only sustained Reading's potent rock'n'roll mix. Leave it to UNKLE to cool things off … er, slightly.

The Honorary Title: In With the New

NEW YORK: Brooklyn-based rockers whet the palate of NYC's Lower East Side for upcoming album.

"Last time we were here there were six people," said Honorary Title bassist Aaron Kamstra. But at the Mercury Lounge last night (June 21), however, the modest guys of the Honorary Title managed to draw in a sold-out crowd. As twenty-somethings slowly filtered in -- including one Kelly Osbourne -- openers Bear Hands punched out riveting, devil-may-care rock between swigs of Jim Beam.

The Academy Is... School Irving Plaza

NEW YORK: Debuting new tunes, the quintet play an intimate club for their first show of the year.

Perhaps so excited to take the stage for the first time in six months, the Academy Is... had virtually every member of the sold-out crowd -- which was primarily comprised of under-21s and the parents they dragged with them -- transfixed in a cyclical motion of singing, fist-pumping, and pogo-ing.

Philly Loves Boys Like Girls, Valencia

PHILADELPHIA: Wunderkind of Purevolume play the Starlight Ballroom with Envy on the Coast and Capitol Risk.

Valencia, Boys Like Girls, and Envy on the Coast made a stop at Starlight Ballroom, playing to a sold-out crowd that started lining up as early as 8 A.M. Weeks earlier, this stop of the bands' Northeast tour -- on which each of the pop-punk prodigies will headline their hometowns -- was moved to a larger venue. Many in attendance were there to see Philly's own Valencia.
