EXCLUSIVE: New Song from Seattle’s Telekinesis

Seattle power pop outfit Telekinesis — whose 2009 self-titled debut was a SPIN fave — will return with a second album, 12 Desperate Straight Lines, February 15 via Merge. Download a brand new song, “Car Crash,” below!

“Car Crash” packs the same sugary punch of the band’s debut, juxtaposing singer-songwriter Michael Lerner’s buoyant hooks with contemplative lyrics: “Will I die alone? / You know I’m so concerned / You know I’m so confused / Like a lost child, a little lost child.”

Lerner recorded 12 Desperate Straight Lines in Portland, Oregon, with producer Chris Walla, the Death Cab for Cutie guitarist and studio whiz for Death Cab, Tegan and Sara, the Thermals, and Nada Surf. Earlier this year, Lerner shared a collection of photos from his recording sessions at Walla’s Jackpot! Studios with SPIN.com — check out the gallery here.

Lerner — a singing drummer when his band plays live — will hit the road in February, just after the album release, with a new Telekinesis lineup featuring ex-Blood Brothers axeman Cody Votolato and Verbow/Robert Pollard bassist Jason Narducy. Check out the full dates below — a SXSW stop is also planned.
