TV on the Radio, Deerhunter Will Curate All Tomorrow’s Parties

Deerhunter

All Tomorrow’s Parties, the 12-year-old festival series where artists select a weekend of live music, has announced two U.K. festivals set for this spring and summer, and the bill so far should please fans of forward-thinking rock bands. TV on the Radio will headline and pick bands the May 21-23 event, and Deerhunter will do the same from June 21-23 — well, actually, Deerhunter will play three separate sets, performing their albums Cryptograms, Microcastle, and Halcyon Digest each in full. Both weekends’ festivals will take place at the Pontins Holiday Camp in Camber Sands, U.K.

Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox’s Atlas Sound will also get a set during the June event. But don’t worry, there will still be room for bands besides TV on the Radio and Deerhunter-related projects: Each festival is expected to feature 35 acts. (While we’re at it, though, there’s no word yet on a possible appearance by Deerhunter guitarist Lockett Pundt’s Lotus Plaza outfit, which released sophomore album Spooky Action at a Distance earlier this year. And what about TV on the Radio side projects such as Maximum Balloon and Rain Machine? We could pretty happily watch all these guys for days!)

The announcement comes as ATP is set to hold an I’ll Be Your Mirror festival in New York this weekend, overseen by Greg Dulli (Afghan Whigs, Twilight Singers). The lineup includes Frank Ocean, Godspeed! You Black Emperor, the Roots, Mark Lanegan Band, Philip Glass and Tyondai Braxton, Lightning Bolt, Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo, and many more. Other ATP festivals are coming up in the U.K. later this year, with Shellac in charge of one in November and the National leading another in December. As Pitchfork points out, ATP had previously suggested it was scrapping its spring and summer U.K. festivals, but now with the TV on the Radio and Deerhunter news, it’s like nothing ever happened.
