Daft Punk’s New Album Will Be Playing at Your House in May

Add this one to the list of Albums You Gotta Hear in 2013: Daft Punk’s fourth full-length — a long-awaited follow-up to 2005’s Human After All — will finally be released sometime in May on Columbia Records, the Guardian reports.

Not much else is known about the upcoming LP, but SPIN noted last year that Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter were working on the full-length with Chic legend Nile Rodgers. “We were just jamming at my house, but it’s gonna be proper and real,” Rodgers told Australia’s Faster Louder at the time. “We were having so much fun just in an informal setting that we decided to make it formal. And it’s very formal. It’s gonna be amazing.” He added, “Every track they played I just ran across the room and got my guitar and started playing and we were all dancing around my dining room having the time of our lives. It was something that was meant to be.”

The disco-droid DJs have reportedly also teamed with a number of other artists in recent years, including Animal Collective’s Panda Bear, Feist collaborator Chilly Gonzales, songwriter Paul Williams, and electronic music pioneer Giorgio Moroder. As of now, it’s unclear which, if any, of these sessions will show up on the new album.

Daft Punk were rumored to make an appearance at Coachella this year, but the NME squashed that by reporting that the “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” spinners would not be performing any live shows in 2013.

All three of the pair’s previous studio albums (1997’s Homework, 2001’s Discovery, and ’05’s Human After All) were released by their longtime label, EMI’s Virgin Records. (This excludes 2010’s Tron: Legacy soundtrack, which was put out by Walt Disney Records.) Daft Punk’s new deal with Columbia was confirmed yesterday (January 27) by Billboard.
