This time last year, Frank Ocean was about to perform at Coachella. channel ORANGE was still a few months away, as was his touching letter about having fallen in love with a man. Now he has posted a video on his Tumblr for channel ORANGE‘s lithe, Divine Fits-covered “Lost,” with the caption “summer 2012.” Where the song describes a woman who’s lost in the sense she ends up with the narrator “cooking dope,” the video uses split-screen footage and a grainy texture to show Ocean himself lost in last year’s flush of fame. The use of Ocean’s Coachella live footage synched with the album recording is particularly effective, and there’s a cameo from fellow Odd Future member Tyler, the Creator. Here in 2013, with a Grammy performance out of the way, Ocean is found, and we’re not mad about sharing him.
