Mariah Carey, still currently slumming it on the least consequential season of American Idol to-date, is reportedly once again ready to convince America that she’s not just a reality television prop. According to various eagle-eyed fansites, Mariah is preparing the release of her newest single, one that features R&B it-boy Miguel. Details are scarce, but cryptic tweets from principal players seem to confirm the track’s existence: director Joseph Kahn hinted today that he wrapped a video with Carey, while Miguel sent out a vaguer tweet, but one that could also be easily read into.

Firmer confirmation comes via a since-deleted tweet from someone named Fletcher Allison (alternately referred to as a sound mixer or production assistant, depending on your Mariah fansite of choice), who said today that he was on-set for a video being shot by Kahn featuring Miguel and Mariah Carey. Time will soon tell all, but it’s hard to imagine Carey not trying to jumpstart her music career while on this season of IdolIf so, it would end a dead period in the wake of “Triumphant (Get ‘Em),” Carey’s single from last August featuring Meek Mill and Rick Ross that flopped upon arrival.
