Hear Deftones’ Chino Moreno and Ex-Isis Members Unite as Palms

Palms 'Patagonia' Deftones Isis Ipecac Chino Moreno

The Deftones made a triumphant return with Koi No Yokan, which handily hurdled into SPIN’s 50 Best Albums of 2012 lineup. But no matter where his band is in their now 25-year career, singer Chino Moreno remains a restless soul. His latest project is Palms, which finds the Sacramento alt-metal king backed by three of the former members of renowned doom-metal outfit Isis: bassist Jeff Caxide, drummer Aaron Harris, and guitarist Bryant Clifford Meyer. They’ve got a self-titled debut full-length on the way on June 15, via Mike Patton’s Ipecac imprint, but have otherwise remained quite until now. Pitchfork has premiered the band’s first official song, “Patagonia,” which finds the four-piece laying down thickly atmospheric rock with a shadowy bent. “There’s a hole in space where the demons wait,” Moreno sings early on, while the glassy melodies and chiming guitar notes seem to echo through the ether. Stream the song below while perusing Palms’ West Coast tour dates.
