Stream Drake’s Latest ‘Not a Love Song,’ the Regal ‘Trophies’

drake, trophies

Drake had a triumphant 2013, and the Toronto rapper is celebrating by showing off his “Trophies.” The Nothing Was the Same star has finally released the long-teased track, which he previously previewed during a September trailer for his third album. Drizzy’s DJ also shared a minute-long snippet with fans during an intermission at Drake’s recent performance at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. But now, no more pageantry — the full song has arrived.

Actually, maybe just a bit more pageantry. Produced by Hit-Boy with Hagler and Noah “40” Shebib, “Trophies” is a hip-hop coronation that’s heavy on the horns, a victory lap to remind listeners that Drake is sick of being pigeonholed as a sad-sack. “This shit is not a love song,” the 27-year-old MC declares. “This a fuck a stripper on a mink rug song/ This a fuck them boys forever, hold a grudge song/ Pop some fuckin’ champagne in the tub song/ Nigga, ‘just because’ song.” Stream it below.

“Trophies” comes just days after Drake dropped a freestyle remix of “We Made It,” the opening track off of Soulja Boy’s recent mixtape, The King. And if the “Hold On, We’re Going Home” crooner keeps his word, we can expect a few more tracks before year’s end, just as he told Vibe recently. Until then, admire the “Trophies.”
