Ciara and Future’s Love Is a Blissed-Out Battlefield on ‘Anytime’

Ciara, Future, "Anytime"

If Ciara and Future’s latest is to be believed — and why wouldn’t it be, when it involves the man whose upcoming album is titled Honest — their relationship is so blissful it can make a warlike metaphor sound safe as milk. The recently engaged Atlanta R&B and rap power couple’s woozy love ballad “Anytime” has hit the Internet as they’re expecting their first child; the Katalyist and Boi-1da co-production is a tropical bath of distant guitar lines, skittering drum programming, and unabashed comfort that should probably be handed out with copies of What to Expect When You’re Expecting. “Baby, I’ll go to war for you in this life,” they sing, Ciara in her dusky coo, Future in his more-human-than-human robot gargle. The “Body Party” singer has had enough potential hits that for one reason or another missed — you’re hearing this from someone who still has a soft spot for 2010 The-Dream team-up “Speechless” — that it’s tough to predict whether this song will gain as much acknowledgement as we’d hope. But while it’s playing, there’s no doubting that shared holy-shit-we’re-having-a-baby bond. Bask in its glow below.
