Arcade Fire Sex Up Boyz II Men’s ‘Motownphilly’ in Philly

Arcade Fire Motownphilly Boyz II Men

Arcade Fire came new-jack-stepping into Philadelphia last night with a cover of — what else? — Boyz II Men’s 1991 single “Motownphilly.” It’s just the latest of the band’s tour-stop tributes, which have included Prince’s “Controversy” in Minneapolis and Stevie Wonder’s “Uptight” in Auburn Hills, Michigan (the soul icon was born in Saginaw, some 70 miles away).

In the minute-long clip turned up by Arcade Fire Tube (via Pitchfork), Win Butler cooly croons his way through references to “East Coast swag,” “Jet black Benz,” and, of course, “all the Philly steaks you can eat,” backed up by a shuffling funk groove and bumptious horns.

Sadly, the video cuts off midway through, but if that doesn’t slake your thirst, there’s always this dance number from The New Mickey Mouse Club, featuring Ryan Gosling, Dale Godboldo, Marc Wedren, Matt Morris, and Justin Timberlake himself.
