St. Vincent Struts Robotically Through ‘Bring Me Your Loves’ on ‘Letterman’

St. Vincent 'Bring Me Your Loves' 'Letterman'

On Wednesday evening, St. Vincent took to the Ed Sullivan Theater stage for a shreddy Live on Letterman webcast, playing 11 songs culled mainly from the Essential St. Vincent and 2011’s Strange Mercy. Earlier that day, Annie Clark and co. hit up the regular Late Show broadcast with Dave himself to perform “Bring Me Your Loves,” a rendition that only aired last night. Here, Clark and her backing band show off the choreography they’ve used throghout the St. Vincent tour with almost military precision. No footstep, gesture, or expression seems without purpose, adding an almost robotic feel to the musicians. Afterward, an impressed Letterman complimented Clark an her hair, then cracked, “Some of that was semaphore, wasn’t it?” referring to the old-school method of communicating through coded gestures while holding flags. Enjoy it up top.
