Did Kanye West Give Taylor Swift a Heads Up About That Stupid ‘Famous’ Lyric?

Update: Kanye West is awake and tweeting

Surely by now you’ve heard tale of the lyric that nearly destroyed the Internet yesterday, premiered last evening by Kanye West at his MSG Yeezy Season 3 debut as part of his Life of Pablo listening session: “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / I made that bitch famous.” The lyric was vile enough in delivery and intent that it seemed like it almost had to be a joke between the artists, a pre-planned thing between two of pop’s elite, who appeared to bury whatever hatchet remained from bad 2009 memories at last year’s VMAs. Well maybe, and maybe not. TMZ reported last night from sources close to the 1989 star that Taylor was given the heads up about “Famous,” and that she gave Kanye the All Clear to go ahead with the song and lyric. But shortly thereafter, New York Times critic Jon Caramanica reported a different response to his Instagram, directly form Swift’s spokesperson:

FYI re Kanye/Taylor/”Famous” aka mom and dad broke up again

Regardless of what the final explanation for all of this ends up being, it appears that Kanye and Taylor’s past isn’t through with them just yet. Ladies and gentlemen, reload your “Imma let you finish” memes.

Getting a head start on some spring cleaning. Here we go again.
