Trey Songz Covers David Bowie’s ‘Life on Mars?’ for HBO’s ‘Vinyl’

Trey Songz took on the latest classic cover from the soundtrack of HBO’s record-industry drama Vinyl, and the stakes are pretty high: It’s David Bowie’s “Life on Mars?” Songz’ stripped-down version keeps the instantly recognizable piano, but dispenses with the percussion and other instrumentation. It’s not quite the same without the guitar solo, but it’s not bad, either.

The show has already brought us covers from Iggy Pop, Alison Mosshart, and Julian Casablancas. The latest track premiered at Complex today. Check it out below, and watch Vinyl on Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
