Pearl Jam Performed With Sting and Cheap Trick Onstage in New York City Last Night

At Pearl Jam’s second night at New York City’s massive Madison Square Garden, the band welcomed a slew of special guests to help them ring in the joyous night. First Cheap Trick members Rick Nielsen and Tom Petersson hopped onstage to perform their 1978 single “Surrender” with Pearl Jam, and then Sting joined the band for a cover of the Police’s “Driven to Tears.”

“I think I read that we get more information in one day in modern times than people in the 1700s used to get in a whole lifetime. So if you’re every feeling crazy or overwhelmed or insignificant or frustrated or beaten down, there’s a f**king reason,” Vedder explained to the crowd about why they were covering the Police song, according to Rolling Stone. “It’s impossible to keep up. There’s a lot of tragedy in the world; we just didn’t used to hear about all of it.”
